A few years ago, Google has introduced Google Authorship. This is a way for writers or blog/site owners to be known more for their great posts. It allows the photos of the authors to be shown in search results. For example, if your article is shown on a search engine, your photo also shows up. The photo that will show up is your profile photo on Google+ so it is also important to have a Google+ account with a great photo.
Another element which is required in the Google Authorship is the author byline. Your pages or posts should contain a byline showing that you are really the owner of the post. The name which appears on your byline should be the same with your name on Google+. Of course, your domain email should not be missed as well. However, when you don’t have this, there are more ways on how you can set up your Google Authorship account.
Is Google Authorship Really Dead?
Just recently, John Mueller of Google announced that they are putting an end to Google Authorship. The main reason for this is that the Google team has not noticed a significant change in the results it is providing. It was under test and experimentation and since it was not showing great results for most brands, they have to end it.
There are two areas in which Google Authorship did not excel well:
- Low adoption rates for webmasters and authors. It seems pretty simple to enter the Authorship program but when you actually do the process, you can encounter some problems along the way. This can be a hassle to those who are not that very knowledgeable in terms of codes, etc. As a result, not all site owners or authors have the chance to enter the program.
- Low value to internet searchers. According to John Mueller, there was a click behavior difference which was noticed on search result pages having the Authorship snippets. This click behavior difference was barely noticed on search result pages without the snippets. Additionally, it was concluded that the users are not actually getting enough value from their snippets.
